چکیده
We present results from NICMOS Hubble Space Telescope observations of the reddened bulge globular clusters NGC 6528, Terzan 5, Liller 1, UKS 1 and Terzan 4, obtained through the filters F110W (1.1 μm) and F160W (1.6 μm) (nearly equivalent to J and H). For the first time the turnoff region of Liller 1 and the main sequence of Terzan 5 and Terzan 4 are reached, as well as the horizontal branch of UKS 1. The magnitude difference between the turnoff and the red horizontal branch ∆m110 = m HB 110 −m TO 110 is used as an age indicator. From comparisons with new isochrones in the NICMOS photometric system, we conclude that the two metal-rich clusters NGC 6528 and Terzan 5 are coeval within uncertainties (∼ 20%) with 47 Tucanae. Liller 1 and UKS 1 are confirmed as metal-rich globular clusters. Terzan 4 is confirmed as an interesting case of a metal-poor cluster in the bulge with a blue horizontal branch.

Distances of the bulge globular clusters Terzan 5, Liller 1, UKS 1, and Terzan 4 based on HST NICMOS photometry
Context. A large number of pulsars and X-rays sources are detected in globular clusters. To understand the structure and content of these clusters, accurate distances are required. Aims. We derive the distances of Terzan 5, Liller 1 and UKS 1 using as a reference a recent distance determination of NGC 6528, based on HST/NICMOS and NTT/SOFI infrared photometry. The distance of the metal-poor clu...

Received ; accepted – 2 – ABSTRACT We have obtained deep multifrequency radio observations of seven globular clusters using the Very Large Array and the Australia Telescope Compact Terzan 5 had previously been detected in a shallower survey for steep spectrum radio sources in globular clusters (Fruchter & Goss 1990). The sixth, the rich globular cluster, Liller 1, had heretofore been undetected...
متن کاملHigh resolution infrared spectra of Bulge Globular Clusters : The extreme chemical abundances of Terzan 4 and Terzan 5
Using the NIRSPEC spectrograph at Keck II, we have obtained infrared echelle spectra covering the range 1.5− 1.8 μm for the highly reddened bulge globular clusters Terzan 4 and Terzan 5. The clusters are of interest because a blue horizontal branch in Terzan 4 is consistent with very low metallicity, while Terzan 5 has been proposed as possibly the most metal rich known Galactic globular cluste...

The High Resolution Echelle Spectrometer (HIRES) on the Keck I telescope has been used to measure the first radial velocities for stars belonging to eleven, heavily-reddened globular clusters in the direction of the inner Galaxy. The sample consists of the clusters Terzan 3, NGC 6256, IC 1257, NGC 6380 (= Ton 1), Ton 2 (= Pismis 26), Djorg 1, NGC 6540 (= Djorg 3), IC 1276 (= Pal 7), Terzan 12, ...
متن کاملHST observations of Terzan 1: a second parameter globular cluster in the galactic bulge
Hubble Space Telescope observations in the F555W and F814W bands are presented of the bulge globular cluster Terzan 1. This highly obscured cluster has the smallest projected distance to the Galactic center among all known globulars. Its colour-magnitude diagram shows a red horizontal branch, which is typical of metal-rich clusters, combined to a very steep red giant branch, which instead is ty...
